A rare recording of 17th or 18th century spoken Negerhollands by both a missionary and two speakers of basilectal Negerhollands. The conversation has been written down by Oldendorp with two more conversations (see OLDGESPR_2) on a supplementary sheet in the manuscript version of his Missionsgeschichte, published in 1777 in a severely reduced and re-edited version that lacked Oldendorp's approval, which did not contain these conversations (Stein 2010a). The conversations as they are included in the NEHOL database have been edited by Peter Stein, who published them as Stein 2010b. It is unknown whether the conversations are real, fictional, or reconstructed based on experiences of the missionaries. That means we do not know whether the text is a true reflection of the language as spoken by the native speakers of basilectal Negerhollands (which then probably has undergone an orthographical "embellishment"), or whether the text is simply written by missionaries. I have dated the conversations 1777, the year the reduced version of Oldendorp's MIssionsgeschichte was published. The conversations probably have been written down much earlier (between 1770 and 1777), but at the latest in 1777.
