A writing on the religious value of marriage. It is written by Brother Johann Loretz. He visited St. Thomas in 1783/1784 to inspect the Moravian mission on St. Thomas (Stein 1986b). Stein (1986b) assumes the date of redaction of the text to be 1783 or 1784, the time that Brother Loretz was on St. Thomas. In the text itself, the name Melchior Schmidt is mentioned as the translator of the text (into Creole) and the translation is dated "ca. 1772". This suggest that the text had been written by Loretz and then translated more than a decade before Loretz's visit to St. Thomas. The possibility remains that in 1783 or 1784 the translated text had been modified on the occassion of Loretz's visit.
