Part of an article published in 1881 in the 'Zeitschrift für Ethnologie XIII, 135-138' by Danish physician dr. Erik Pontoppidan, containing Negerhollands proverbs with German translation, and an informal conversation in Negerhollands. Pontoppidan recorded (in writing) the proverbs and the conversation from speakers of Negerhollands on St. Thomas (Van Rossem & Van der voort 1996: 231). Pontoppidan's article also contained the 14th chapter of Matthew, taken from Magens (1781), which is present in the NEHOL database as PONTOPPI_Evangelium.
